Windmills at Cap-Chat

The village of Cap-Chat is home to one of Canada's largest wind farms, which produce an increasingly large share of the nation's electricity. In addition to conventional horizontal-axis turbines like those in the photo, Cap-Chat also has the world's largest vertical-axis wind turbine, which somewhat resembles a giant inverted eggbeater. The site is open to the public, and the bilingual tour guides are extremely informative.

The Cap-Chat windmills sit atop one of the steepest hills we had to climb all week. Coming as it did near the end of a hot, sunny day, it's not surprising to see a lot of cyclists walking their bikes up the hill!
