Alma - Jonquière - Chicoutimi
Our first two days we looped around farms, forests and lakes between the east shore of gigantic Lac St-Jean and the Saguenay valley's three largest cities, Alma, Jonquière and Chicoutimi. Farms in the Lac St-Jean region are not known for growing corn; instead the major crops are wheat, oats, chocolate-covered blueberries, and the famous gourgane or giant fava bean.

We enjoyed the views down the Chicoutimi River from the top of the Lac Kénogami dam (above) and gazed across the broad Saguenay River to Mont Valin from behind Oscar's riding stable (right) just east of Chicoutimi.

We spent two nights in Jonquière in a city of tents of every shape color and size (below), eating delicious meals and enjoying the festive atmosphere and live music of the outdoor bistro.
